Get smooth and glowing skin with this coffee and honey scrub! Use it for your face or even for your whole body. It’s very easy to make, only takes a minute and, as always, it’s 100% natural!
I’ll give you a few options and additional add-ins for you to choose from, if you like, and explain the benefits of this coffee and honey scrub as well as how to prepare it and use it, of course.

Ingredients
- Coffee grounds
- Honey
- Oil/water (or more honey)
Coffee
You can use fresh, ground coffee that you haven’t used yet to make yourself a cuppa or, here comes the good part for your wallet: simply reuse spent coffee grounds!
But before you do that, here are some things to consider: How and for what do you want to use this coffee and honey scrub?
For a face peeling, you need to choose fine coffee grounds. Anything coarse will be too rough on your sensitive facial skin. Usually, espresso coffee is fine enough.
For a body scrub, it doesn’t really matter how coarse the coffee grounds are, it’ll be fine. Though, you still need to be a bit careful in sensitive areas like the inner thighs and chest.
For treating cellulite, you may want to use fresh coffee here because its caffeine content is higher than in spent coffee grounds. And we need caffeine to have an effect on cellulite.
Honey
I reckon it’s best to use raw, unprocessed honey to benefit from it the most. Liquid, runny honey might be a bit easier to mix in with the other ingredient(s), too.
Manuka honey is for sure the queen amongst all kinds of honey as it’s much more powerful than others. However, Manuka honey is also one of the most expensive… So, you choose.
Oil/water
This is technically optional. You can absolutely make this DIY scrub with just honey and coffee but adding oil or water stretches it a bit more, thus you need less honey which makes it cheaper!
Plus, I find when I add oil, the scrub works a little better because it glides a lot more.
Additional Ingredients
- Oil
- Sugar
- Salt
- Essential oils
Oil
Not only does oil stretch this coffee and honey scrub, but it also leaves your skin soft and moisturised when you’ve done the peeling and step out of the shower.
You can use different oils here like sweet almond, olive or coconut oil (beware, this one solidifies when it’s cold though).
Sugar/Salt
You can use all sorts of sugars and salts. The most important thing is that you use a fine grind for a face scrub because our facial skin is a lot more sensitive. Brown sugar and fine sea or rock salt are great for the face.
Essential Oils
If you like to enhance this coffee and honey scrub with a nice, therapeutic scent you can add a few drops of essential oils. I’ve listed a few in my homemade coffee body scrub blog post that not only smell good but are also very beneficial for the skin (especially when treating cellulite).
If you want to use essential oils, always add a carrier oil (unless you use lavender essential oil only, it’s safe to use without it).

Instructions
How to make this coffee and honey scrub?
Very easy. Simply mix the coffee grounds, honey and other, additional ingredients, if using, together to form a wet paste.
I usually just make small batches because I mainly use this coffee and honey scrub for my face. But you can absolutely make more and store it for some time in your cupboard (for more details, refer to “storage”).
How to use this coffee and honey scrub?
For a facial scrub
- Wash your face with warm water.
- Apply small amounts of the coffee and honey face scrub (with fine ground coffee!) onto your face and gently massage in circular motions. Leave out the eye area. You can massage softly over your lips for a lip scrub here as well!
- If you like, leave the scrub on your face for 10 to 15 minutes as a mask before removing it. Remove scrub with a wet and warm face towel or washer making sure nothing runs into your eyes.
- Follow up with a serum (like this one for glowing skin) and/or a nice nourishing moisturiser.
For a body scrub & cellulite treatment
- In the shower, wet your whole body first.
- Then you apply body scrub all over your body in a circular motion. You can apply some pressure and rub the peeling on your skin to increase the blood flow. Just be gentler on your inner thighs and chest area.
- Cellulite: vigorously massage affected areas (normally thighs and bottom) in a circular motion. It’s okay to apply some pressure here but don’t go over the top—you don’t want to hurt yourself.
- Rinse off body scrub and wash your body as you’re used to. Ideally with soap to get any coffee residue off the skin.
How often can I use this coffee and honey scrub?
It’s always a good idea to give your skin some time to regenerate. Once a week is totally fine. If you want to use it more often, just be a lot gentler with the massage, use fine coffee grounds instead of coarse and don’t use any salt or sugar.
Storage
If you’ve got some leftovers or made a bigger batch, store them in a clean jar or container. This coffee and honey scrub keeps for several weeks in the cupboard (especially if you added oil). But to avoid any mould and to keep it longer, store it in the fridge.
Warnings & Safety
Most people are fine with using honey on their skin. However, if you’re allergic to any bee-related product like bee pollen or their venom, be careful.
Ideally, you make a patch test before applying this honey coffee scrub. That means you apply a small amount of honey to a small area of your skin and leave it on for about 20 minutes. If any irritation occurs, don’t use this DIY product with honey.
If any irritations occur after using this body scrub, please stop using it immediately. You may react to an oil or the honey.
Or, also possible, you’ve applied too much pressure and massaged your skin too vigorously. This means, next time be gentler and see if the irritations still occur after it.
Redness of the skin after using this scrub is totally normal as you’ve just increased circulation. This is only temporary and should go away after 15-20 minutes.
